The Local Governing Body carry out the three core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.

  • Holding the Principals to account for the educational performance of the school and it's pupils and the performance management of staff.

  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

Position and Responsibilities: Member, Interim Chair of Governors at Leiston, Governor responsible for Welfare

Brief Biography:  A retired GP, with experience of teaching young doctors. Awarded the MBE for services to the community and medicine. A governor of Wickham Market school for 9 years until recently. Still involved with the school through Forest School, links with All Saints Church and Red Triangle Bowls club. A founder "Member" of Avocet Academy, and delighted to continue to serve in this capacity.

Brief Biography: Joanne is employed by the Trust as executive Headteacher and has worked as a Headteacher in a primary school setting for more than ten years.

Brief Biography: Melissa has worked within Avocet Academy since its inception.

Her role was Class Teacher and Assistant Principal at Easton Primary School before being seconded to work at Leiston as a non-teaching Assistant Principal.

She has a passion for curriculum development and teacher development and has been teaching for 12 years.

Brief Biography: Kelly works as the Head of Health and Safety for Vertas, Property Management.  She has 2 children which attends the school.  Kelly has worked in Health and Safety and the construction industry for the past 15 years, she currently leads a team who ensures H&S compliance across Suffolk County Councils assets as well as Academies.

Position and Responsibilities: Parent Governor

Brief Biography: Clare works part time as a Chartered Legal Executive for a firm of solicitors specialising in matrimonial law.

She is married and has two children aged 8 and 4 who both attend Leiston Primary School.

Position and Responsibilities: Trustee, Member and interim Governor for Leiston

 Brief Biography:  Jeremy is an accomplished senior manager, having developed strategy for Unilever and as part of the team which established a highly dynamic ice cream business operating in over 100 countries. His last role in Unilever was as Vice President for Leadership Development and has a passion for the development of Resilient Leadership in organisations. He is a professional coach, with clients across the globe operating in public, private and third sectors. Jeremy has been involved in the governance of schools since 2009 and was part of the driving force which led to the establishment of Avocet Academy in 2014.

Position and Responsibilities: Trustee and Member of the Audit and Risk Committee. Rosemary is currently also the Chair of Governors of Aldeburgh Primary School, Interim Governor for Leiston

Brief Biography:  Rosemary is a solicitor and mediator in practice in London and East Anglia. She has extensive Non-Executive Director experience on national boards in the public and charitable sectors.

Rosemary has a wide range of skills and experience in areas such as strategic development, consumer interests, complex problem solving, risk analysis and management, performance and financial management, negotiation and stakeholder management.

She has chaired governance reviews for three national organisations.

Position and Responsibilities: Chair of Trustees and Chair of Governor at Wickham, responsible for Data Analysis, Interim Governor for Leiston

Brief Biography:  Roger has been professionally involved in education over his working life, including time as a headteacher of two Primary schools and as a Senior Adviser, time which included advising headteachers and staff in schools and managing initiatives in several key areas of school improvement.

Since moving to Wickham Market in 2012, he has been involved in the governing body of Wickham Market Primary School, as well as the setting up of the Academy trust, and as a volunteer helper at the school. He is pleased to be able to offer both his professional experiences and his commitment to being involved in the community of Wickham Market to both the school and the academy trust.
