I'm your teacher, Mr Lister. Find out a little bit more about me by clicking on my profile below:

Year 5 Long Term Overview

English / Writing

We have been producing some fantastic writing this term, practicing lots of different styles. Using our Power of Reading texts, we have written our own creative stories and poetry about Arthur and the Golden Rope, Oliver and the Seawigs as well as the Suffragettes.

This term we have also been teaching and learning from home. Children have still been producing amazing writing, using the popular pop song / music video "Titanium" as a stimulus. We have written newspaper incident reports on the mysterious "explosion" featured in the video as well as our own prequels and sequels to the storyline.

Mathematics

In Maths, we believe in exploration and investigation to get the best learning out of the children. While looking at multiplication / division strategies and fractions, we have been completing many Maths investigations too, such as the Magic V (maybe you can have a go at this - see example). We have been practicing 'drawing out' problems and using resources to help find a solution(s)!

Topic

We have been researching and learning about the Roman and their invasion on the world. We have studied their different political structures, looked at significant figures and held our own debates!

Whilst learning from home, we have begun looking at Crime and Punishment throughout history. We will be looking at the development of the rule of law throughout history, researching criminals and evidence used, learn about the different court systems and take part in our own trial re-enactments!

We have drawn our own Roman soldiers practicing our sketching techniques!

Other Home Learning

At Leiston Primary, we have been incredibly proud of how brilliantly everyone has adapted to the changes and challenges we currently face. Children have been creating and learning lots and lots from home and staff have enjoyed supporting and seeing this online (remote learning), in our daily zoom sessions or in school.

We have been keeping active making our own exercise routines, obstacle courses, reading dens and doing yoga via zoom with Yoga Jo!

We have been inspired by Claude Monet and his poppy fields as well as using ice to create decorations!
