Who will teach us?
I am your class teacher, Miss Robertson, and we are very lucky to be supported by Mrs Stebbings. Our other year 5 class is taught by Mr Head and assisted by Miss Rouse.
What will we learn this term?
This term, in our topic lessons, will be learning about the Alps, which countries the Alps are part of and what it would be like to live there. After half-term, we are learning about What was life like in Tudor England? We will also compare Henry VIII and Elizabeth I and the changing nature of monarchy and how monarchs tried to control their public images using portraits and royal progresses.
In Science, we will be learning about Forces and Global Warming and after half-term we will be learning about the lifecycles of animals including humans, how we age and gestation periods. In D&T, we will be practicing our needlework when designing and creating our own stuffed toys before building CAM toys.
Our writing opportunities will be based around Katherine Rundell’s fantastic books ‘Rooftoppers’ whereas after half-term we will be basing our English work on 'Black Powder'. In Maths, we will begin by focusing on multiplication and division (multiplying 4-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers) and fractions (multiplying two fractions together or finding a fraction of an amount). After half-term, we will be learning about decimals and percentages, area and perimeter and statistics.
In Music, we will be continuing our guitar lessons and in Computing we will be learning about networks and search engines before handling data. Finally, in PE, this term's units are hockey and netball.
