The Worry Monster

Children are used to having a worry box or worry monster in class.  There is always an adult on hand to talk to while in school.

We cannot promise to keep information secret but we can promise to always work to ensure the right support is available - please see the Children's Safeguarding Policy.

Children can talk to us about worries they might have including:

  • things that have happened to them or someone else
  • not knowing where to go when feeling scared
  • missing school
  • what will happen in the future
  • coping with mental health.

Children can also contact Childline from 7:30am-3:30am every day, either online, by calling 0800 1111 or by sending a message from their website.

The Thrive Approach

THRIVE Approach

What does it take to develop healthy, happy, confident children who are ready and open to learning? Recent advances in neuroscience, attachment theory and child development have provided some of the answers to this question.

The Thrive Approach draws on insights from these fields to provide a powerful way of working with children and young people that supports optimal social and emotional development. In particular, the Approach equips you to work in a targeted way with children and young people who have struggled with difficult life events to help them reengage with life and learning (Taken from the Thrive Website - see link below).

At Leiston Primary School we educate the whole child and address a wide variety of needs that they may have. We have two fully training Thrive practitioners in school who support identified children through a range of small group and individual activities. The power of marbles in warm soapy water under your feet is amazing!

If you would like more information about the approach then please speak to Mrs Hazel Hammond (Family Liaison Co-coordinator) or Mrs Bev Wilson.
