Leiston Primary School Early Years Curriculum Goals

At Leiston Primary School we aim for our learners to leave Early Years having achieved the following curriculum goals:

To make friends and get along well with others.

To see how special we are and work on our own and team goals.

To share what we are thinking and feeling.

To use our bodies in fun and exciting ways.

To enjoy and love reading books.

To learn about numbers and solve tricky puzzles.

To learn about ourselves, our friends, and the world around us.

To use our imagination and think carefully.

Teaching and learning:

In the Early Years Foundation Stage, there are 7 areas of learning:

  • communication and language
  • physical development
  • personal, social and emotional development
  • literacy
  • mathematics
  • understanding the world
  • expressive arts and design

The prime areas are in bold and are the areas considered fundamental to success in all areas. Each area has an Early Learning Goal which is what your child is expected to achieve by the end of the year. We are following the new Development Matters guidance, which can be found here...

Teaching and learning is a mixture of adult focus and child led learning activities throughout the day.

Continuous Provision

In Reception play based learning is promoted and achieved through continuous provision. We plan the environment carefully to ensure that the provision provides challenge and meets the needs of your child. There will be invitations for learning, set up by adults and linked to the topic, but your child will also have have the ability to direct their own play. Your child will have free flow access to the outside area at all times. Playful adults will play alongside your child, introducing new language and providing challenge.
