  • Marking the Day of Reflection

    Tue 23 Mar 2021

  • The West End comes to Leiston

    Fri 26 Feb 2021

During this difficult period of Lockdown our School decided to bring a little bit of West End glamour and inspiration to World Book Day next week (4th March).

Our Oracy leader; Sarah Loxley, reached out to actors from stage and screen to bring some familiar favourites into the children’s homes and demonstrate the the power of the spoken word. We have readings from the stars of Les Miserables, Oliver and Matilda as well as contributions from some of the actors from Call the Midwife, Holby City and Coronation Street! The stories range from We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers to Katy Secombe reading the book that her father wrote for her, Katy and the Nurgla.

Mrs Geater can be heard on Mark Murphy's Breakfast show on 26th February at 9:21am discussing our passion for language development across the school; follow this link

  • Virtual Worry Box

    Mon 25 Jan 2021

Children are used to having a worry box in class or an adult on hand to talk to while in school.

Things are a little bit different at the moment with many children at home, they may have worries or concerns and not know who to share them with.

From today children can share their worries with an adult in school by sending an email to our virtual worry box to let us know who they would like to talk to.

    leistonworrybox@avocetacademy.org

We cannot promise to keep information secret but we can promise to always work to ensure the right support is available - please see the Children's Safeguarding Policy.

Children can talk to us about worries they might have including:

    • things that have happened to them or someone else
    • not knowing where to go when feeling scared
    • missing school
    • what will happen in the future
    • coping with mental health.

Children can also contact Childline from 7:30am-3:30am every day, either online, by calling 0800 1111 or by sending a message through their website.

  • Yoga Jo LIVE

    Mon 25 Jan 2021
Last week we saw our wonderful Yoga teacher, Yoga Jo, beamed into the homes of our Year 5 and 6 children with the class teachers and support staff. It was superb to such a positive level of engagement and provide the tools for our children to think about positive mental health and their wellbeing at this challenging time. Yoga Jo is preparing resources to go to our other children across the school too! Thanks Yoga Jo.
  • Assembly with Reverend Richard

    Thu 17 Dec 2020

Today we welcomed Rev Richard from St Margaret's Church to join us in a remote assembly in place of our yearly trip to the Church to celebrate Christmas.

He told us a wonderful story of how to celebrate the birthday of a king which gave the children the chance to join in the story.

    Thank you Rev Richard

  • Christmas Story time

    Thu 17 Dec 2020
Wednesday 16th December saw us extend the school day and invite our children to stay for a wonderful story telling experience. Around the school the fires were lit (well on the whiteboards), classroom lights turned off, fairy lights turned on and nibbles consumed. The children enjoyed a range of Christmas stories with their staff and really got into the festive spirit, engaging with the stories and being so enthusiastic about the creative art of story telling and use of language and expression. A great way to celebrate Christmas.
